She enjoys Iowa history and wants to preserve it for her grandchildren. She is currently researching the CCC camps in eastern Iowa for another book. Prohibition affected Iowa just as it did any other place in the nation. There were murders in Iowa; Al Capone spent time in Iowa; and the local farmers turned to making moonshine in order to support their families. Linda was able to speak with the sons and daughters of the moonshiners and bootleggers and heard their stories. She will be sharing information on the local area also.

"West by Orphan Train" explores how an estimated 250,000 children were sent west between the years of 1854 and 1929 from various orphanages in the New York area and elsewhere. The idea was to send them to the frontier, where farm families might offer country homes in exchange for the extra pair of hands. The children were lined up in towns and cities throughout the nation and selected by families as the trains made scheduled stops.
